The mining world is abuzz with news the federal government is thinking of offering aid to the industry to help it deal with global economic turmoil.

Pam Schwann of the Saskatchewan Mining Association says struggling nickel mines in Ontario likely sparked the attention.

Schwann notes our province is better insulated than other sectors due to our rich diversity in materials.

She says exploration companies could still do with some help though, and tax breaks may be one way to go.

Schwann adds the industry would also like to see the government top up northern infrastructure which would help both the communities and the mines.
