The federal government has announced plans to build a new school at Deschambault Lake.

The community lost the old school in 2005 when it was destroyed by fire.

Chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, Darrel McCallum, says the band has been negotiating with Ottawa for 8 years for a new building.

He explains students have been forced to use portable classrooms over the past few years.

Meantime the MP for northern Saskatchewan says the government is happy to provide the support.

Rob Clarke notes a new school is being provided for Birch Narrows as well.
