A 17 year old male from Fond du Lac accused of 2nd Degree Murder in connection with a homicide investigation in the community has been remanded into police custody until his next court appearance Wednesday.

The youth, who cannot be identified because of his age, plead not guilty and elected to be tried by judge and jury when the matter is presented in court.

The judge announced that he would need more time to go over material regarding the bail conditions and release of the accused, who has no prior criminal record, before he could move forward with a case.

The suspect will appear in La Ronge Provincial Youth Court on Wednesday, August 2nd at 9:30am for a bail hearing and at that time, a preliminary inquiry date will be set.

The youth remained silent throughout the hearing, which his parents attended and were visibly shaken and distressed by the events that have unfolded.

It was on the morning of Saturday, July 22nd, that officers in Fond du Lac responded to an altercation between the accused and another male from the community. The 15 year old died as a result of injuries sustained in the altercation.

A publication ban on the evidence has been ordered by the courts.
