A northern leader is blaming the provincial government for leaving a Wollaston Lake family without a place to live.
Hatchet Lake band councillor Ed Benoanie says a Dene family from the Northern Hamlet of Wollaston Lake has been told to vacant their home by Monday morning.
Provincial health inspectors have declared the home unsanitary and unfit for living conditions.
The property does not have running water and is not connected to the community’s sewar lines.
Benoanie says the health inspectors evicted David St.Pierre, Doris Linklater, and their 6 school aged children leaving them with no place to go.
He says because the family’s home is not located on reserve land, the Hatchet Lake band can not assist the family due to a lack of funding. Benoanie feels its now the province’s responsiblity to provide the necessities.
According to the letter sent by Saskatchewan Health, the family has until noon on Monday (April 25) to be out of the home or a court order will be sought to have the family removed from their dwelling.
