Facelift of Northern Highway Delayed a Year

Saskatchewan’s Highways minister says work on a major highway in northern Saskatchwewan will have to wait until next year.

Maynard Sonntag says a 21-kilometre stretch of Highway 155 in northwest Saskatchewan was originally scheduled to be upgraded this summer.

However, Sonntag says the wet weather has forced that project to be postponed until next year.

Highway 155 is the main highway on the West Side — connecting communities like Beauval, Ile-a-la-Crosse and Buffalo Narrows.

Sonntag says the province is putting more emphasis on maintaining that highway, since it will be under more strain once an expected link between La Loche and Fort McMurray finally materializes.
