An environmental group says it is growing increasingly uncomfortable with the actions of mining companies on freshwater lakes.

Catherine Coulmans of Mining Watch Canada says two lakes in Newfoundland were recently used as dumping groups due to a loophole in government regulations.

She says it used to be illegal to perform this activity, but an amendment to the rules governing mining effluent changed all that a few years ago.

Coulmans says she worries more lakes and rivers will be ruined in the future unless political pressure is raised over it.
