A group of elders who marched from Ahtahkakoop to the Onion Lake reserve last week are hoping to make it to northern Saskatchewan next year.

They called themselves “Kokums and Moshums Against Drugs and Alcohol”.

As many as 500 of them took part in a five-day trek.

Organizer Mary Naytowhow feels the group was very successful in raising awareness of addiction problems in all of the reserves they covered this year.

She says proposals have been forumlated that would see the elders walking to either Patuanak, Pelican Narrows or La Ronge next summer.

A decision will likely be announced next spring.
