An elder from the Black Lake First Nation says he has concerns about activities at mine sites at Cigar Lake McClean Lake and McArthur River.

Pierre Robillard says radiation and other side-effects of mining can be very dangerous, and he worries about the possibility of them being released into the environment through a major accident.

Robillard feels that the government puts money over environmental safety when approving uranium mines, and he hopes his grandchildren won’t be the ones paying the price.

Robillard was one of several elders from Northern Saskatchewan that attended a conference on climate change this week in Prince Albert.
