Elders To Help Develop Long-Term Care Strategy

Northern elders will have a say in the development of a provincial strategy on caring for their needs.
The communities of La Ronge, Pinehouse and Ile-a-la-Crosse will play host to three of the province’s 13 upcoming consultations on improving the “continuum of care” for Saskatchewan’s oldest residents.
The northern meetings are all set for mid-October.
MLA Laura Ross, the province’s legislative secretary for long-term care initiatives, says she wants to hear directly from seniors about ways to improve health care programs and services targeted for them.
Ross’s job is to look into five issues — elder abuse, home care supports, preventing of falls, the accessibility of personal care homes, and the feasibility of developing a seniors’ secretariat.
