It’s Day Two of the Gathering of Northern Elders in La Ronge.

Hundreds turned out for yesterday’s opening ceremonies to witness the Grand Entry, speeches by numerous dignitaries and a rendition of “O, Canada” sung in Cree.

Premier Lorne Calvert was on hand for yesterday’s ceremony. He said this gathering is one of the highlights of Saskatchewan’s Centennial year, and noted the event celebrates the history of a people that date much further back than the birth of Saskatchewan.

A tour of Stanley Mission is one of the highlights of today’s agenda.

Today is also the first full day of on-site culture workshops, which include demonstrations of moose and beaver hide preparation, moose hair tufting and teachings on traditional medicines and herbs.
