Elders Discuss Climate Change with Scientists

The scientific community is receiving insight and knowledge from elders within the Prince Albert Grand Council this week.

In total, 35 men and women from twelve different communities have gathered in Prince Albert to share their thoughts on climate change and what can be done about it.

Willie Ermine of the First Nations University of Canada says he has great respect for scientists working on the issue of climate change. However, he feels they won’t get very far until they realize it’s not simply a scientific problem, but also a human one.

Ermine says he’s not sure society is really ready to answer some of the questions associated with climate change and that’s why a dialogue between the elders and scientific community is so important.

The forum wraps up on Thursday.
