Elder Abuse Investigation Delayed

An investigation into allegations of RCMP abuse against a Metis elder shows no sign of concluding anytime soon.

That’s despite comments from Inspector Russ Mirasty in December of last year that the investigation would likely take “weeks instead of months”.

A spokesman for the department said yesterday there is still no word of when the inquiry will wrap up.

Corporal Brian Jones states the matter hasn’t been forgotten about though, and is still being looked into seriously.

It was in October of last year that 67-year-old Jacob Lavallee contends he was roughly mishandled by two

RCMP officers near his home of Montreal Lake.

Both the FSIN and Metis Nation of Saskatchewan are also looking into the matter.
