Eight people are taking a run at the leadership of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
Nomination meetings were held in each of the band’s communities yesterday as part of the lead-up to next month’s chief and council election.
Eight candidates have let their names stand in the race for chief — many of them are long-time councillors.
The six candidates from La Ronge include Russell Charles, Tammy Cook-Searson, Irwin Hennie, Kelvin Lindskog, Henry McKenzie and Keith Olsen.
There are also two people running for chief from Stanley Mission — Gordon Hardlotte and Tom McKenzie.
A total of 58 people are running for a spot on the band council.
The election takes place on March 31st.
Longtime chief Harry Cook has chosen not to seek re-election after 17 years in office.
