A conference is underway in Regina this week calling attention to math, science — and traditional Aboriginal teachings.
Dreamcatching 2007 is designed to equip teachers of Aboriginal students with better tools to succeed at studies like chemistry, geometry and algebra.
Event organizer Corinne Jette says presenters and educators from across North America have descended on the University of Regina for the event.
Jette explains many of the experts will show teachers on-reserve how to connect complex principles like math and science with everyday objects.
She notes one presenter from Utah uses beadwork to teach arithmetic, geometry and symmetry.
Jette says there is a pressing need to increase the success rates of Aboriginal students in the science field as soon as possible.
