Edmonton Police Recruiting in the North

The Edmonton Police Service is actively seeking new recruits from northern Saskatchewan.

The Aboriginal recruiting officer for the force, Jim White, was in La Ronge this week to speak to youth at a

career fair about life in the Edmonton police service.

White says they currently have 59 Aboriginal officers in the fold, but need to line up more as soon as possible.

He says Edmonton is much like Prince Albert in that it has a large Aboriginal community, which he estimates at about 55- to 60-thousand.

White knows some youth may be hesitant at first to travel to another province for work, but claims the benefits of the job will make it well worth the trip.

He encourages anyone who’s interested to call the Edmonton Police Service and send in an application form as soon as possible.
