The Chairman of New North says he is pleased by yesterday’s announcement, but he would have liked to have seen something more for Cumberland House.

$35 million is earmarked for the “economic corridors and community access roads” throughout the Westside, Central and Eastern regions.

However, while Highway 123 leading to Cumberland House is highlighted, there is no proposal to build a road on the other side leading to Manitoba. Cumberland House Mayor Dale McAuley feels it’s an opportunity missed.

Some of the other proposed road improvements include Sandy Bay, Deschambault Lake, Michel village, and Ile-a-la-crosse.

Government officials say they will be talking with advisory committees in January and February to let them know when they can expect work to begin.
