Early Results Of Flin Flon Soil Study Inconclusive

The lead researcher of a soil study in Flin Flon is seeking to reassure the public about some recent findings.

Murray Lee confirms that lead amounts in 30 of the 200 children taking part in the survey came back with levels higher than the testing limit.

However, he says the limit they chose for the study was quite low at 5 micrograms per decilitre.

He says all of the cases that exceeded that amount were between 5 to 10 micrograms.

Samples were collected last year with the goal of determining how exposure to soil around Flin Flon and Creighton may be affecting people, given the presence of a copper smelter in the area.

Lee says the individual results are helpful, but statistical analysis of all the results is needed to know what’s going on.

Lee says those results should come out around March.
