A huge chunk of northwest Saskatchewan was without power earlier this morning, and officials at SaskPower say a large eagle’s nest was to blame.

The power outage affected communties from Glaslyn to La Loche. It also impacted the Turtleford and Spiritwood regions.

According to SaskPower spokesman Larry Christie, the trouble started at around 7:00 this morning.

It took crews a while to find out what was causing the situation, but they eventually discovered an eagle’s nest on the line between Cochin and Glaslyn.

Christie says the nest measured five feet across and shorted the line when it became wet.

The nest was removed and will be re-located to a nearby location with the help of Nature Saskatchewan.

Most people in Meadow Lake and north had their power restored at around 8:15 am.

Communities like La Loche, Buffalo Narrows and Ile-a-la-Crosse had their power restored about an hour later.

Customers in the Glaslyn and Turtleford areas had their power turned back on later in the morning.
