The premier says oil companies in Alberta are well aware they will need to consult with Aboriginal groups in northwest Saskatchewan before drilling for oil there.
Brad Wall recently talked with executives in Calgary about the oilsands potential near La Loche and other issues.
Wall says companies there know all about the duty to consult and accommodate, and he’s also confident in their ability to work environmentally-friendly.
That’s why he says he isn’t sure creating a land management plan for the region is necessary.
Wall believes the latest breakthroughs in technology will help cushion any impacts to the province’s wilderness.
Meantime, as far as he knows, construction of the road link to Fort McMurray is on schedule.
However, he’s not sure about work on the Alberta side.
Wall adds he wants the road to be completed as soon as possible.
