Drafting of Cigar Lake Recovery Plan Months Away

An official with Cameco says it’s uncertain how much water is in the Cigar Lake mine.

Spokesman Lyle Krahn says they expect floodwaters to crest within roughly 10 to 20 metres of the surface.

However, he says it could be three months before they decide how to pump the water out, and adds the time of year won’t affect that plan.

Krahn says Cameco had about 430 workers on-site prior to last week’s flooding mishap.

He says that number will likely be reduced to between 150 to 170 workers.
