Doucette Draws Criticism for Taking Office

One of the candidates that ran for president in Wednesday’s Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election is taking issue with the unofficial winner.

The current unofficial results have Robert Doucette winning that vote by 118 votes over Dwayne Roth.

Doucette has already taken office at the MNS headquarters in Saskatoon — something that irks Roth.

Roth says Doucette should keep in mind that there are 18 ballot boxes unaccounted for and numerous complaints of election irregularities.

Roth says it’s too early for anyone to take office when the results are still unofficial.

But Doucette says the MNS Election Act allows for newly-elected officials to take office the day after the election.

The final results are expected to be released following an official count of the ballots on June 3rd.
