Dore Lake Roadblock Dismantled

A roadblock that had been set up on a highway near Dore Lake earlier this week is now down.

Yesterday, protesters near the community took down the barricade after the government agreed to meet with them and listen to what they have to say.

The dissidents say semi-trailers hauling logs are a constant danger to motorists on the road and they want the government to keep the trucks off until the highway is upgraded.

Assistant Deputy Highways Minister George Stamatinos says department officials will meet with the residents tomorrow.

Just a few weeks ago, logging giant Weyerhaeuser announced it would be rebuilding much of Highway 924 over the next two years in an effort to appease local residents.

However, the protesters say measures are needed to keep the trucks off the road until that happens.
