Doctors in Edmonton are performing a liver transplant on a Muskoday band member today.

Vernon Knight, a member of the well-known musical Knight family, was flown by air ambulance to the city’s University hospital last night.

The facility is one of only two hospitals in the country that specializes in the procedure.

Knight has been waiting for the operation for about a year-and-a-half after his own liver began to fail.

His brother, Harvey, says Vernon is in good spirits and family members are anxiously waiting by the phone for news.

Harvey Knight says the operation began at 8:00 this morning, and is slated to last 10 to 12 hours.

He adds the timing of the call couldn’t have worked out better — noting his brother was feeling poorly over the last ten days.

He thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers at this crucial time.
