Documentary Showcasing Dene Genius Airs Tonight

An award winning documentary featuring the life of a Dene mathematical genius and Ivy League academic from northern Saskatchewan will be aired this evening on CBC.

Producer Don Copeman says the film documents the life of Percy Paul, who is originally from Patuanak.

Copeman says film focuses much around Paul’s life, including studying with the world’s academic elite at Princeton University, all the while struggling and coping with bipolar disorder.

Copeman says the 52-minute film documents his troubled childhood on a northern reserve, his rise as an academic genius and the self-destructive behavior that almost cost him his life.

Copeman says “Flight From Darkness” airs at 9 pm local time tonight on CBC Newsworld. A repeat broadcast will be shown on Saturday, December 1st at 10 pm as well.
