The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s decision to suspend a public official from one of its reserves is not going unchallenged.

Keith Mirasty, a long-time counsellor for the Little Red River reserve, disagrees with the band’s decision to remove him – saying accusations of financial mismanagement aren’t accurate.

He also says he was already cleared of allegations that he inappropriately used money from the band’s gravel business during the election of 2002, and therefore, deserves to be reinstated.

However, officials with the band say a special investigator determined the misuse of funds actually occurred during the following year of 2003, and the decision to suspend him is based on that.

Mirasty says that simply isn’t right.

He also doesn’t believe the special investigator the band hired to examine his record did enough to see things from his perspective.
