The Prince Albert/Parkland Health Region is expanding its kidney dialysis unit.

Beginning immediately, the region will take on an extra 12 patients — effectively doubling its current rate of treatment.

Health authority spokesman John Piggott says the move means northerners who travel to Prince Albert for treatment no longer have to worry about getting bumped to Saskatoon during peak periods.

The move was made possible through the province’s decision to award the health authority an extra $600,000 in annual funding.
