Diabetes Epidemic in Cities Focus of Conference

A conference is taking place in Prince Albert today, to try and address the spread of diabetes into urban areas.
Around half a dozen agencies are represented at today’s gathering.
Prince Albert Grand Council diabetes educator Jan Kroll says a number of different aspects concerning diabetes are being discussed by those in attendance, including how to stem the rising number of cases in the city.
Kroll says one of the solutions they’re looking at is to provide more detailed translations of diabetes prevention tips to residents who speak only Cree or Dene.
The hope is that by describing the disease in the languages of the North, local residents will more fully be able to understand its consequences.
