Deschambault Elder Pans Insecticide Spraying

An elder and traditional land user in Deschambault Lake is not in favour of the insecticide spraying that’s about to happen in his area.
Saskatchewan Environment will be spraying BTK on 30,000 hectares of forest next week in an attempt to slow the progress of budworms and caterpillars.
But Oscar Beatty says he hasn’t seen any evidence the spraying is helpful.
Beatty is convinced the spraying is actually more about job creation than anything else.
Beatty also says nature takes care of itself, and man can only harm the environment — not restore it.
Beatty can’t prove that the spraying has actually been responsible for harming the environment, but says he’ll always wonder whether there is a link to the disappearance of small birds in his area.
