A dispute over leadership on the Pelican Lake First Nation is nearing a conclusion.

On Friday, a federal court judge is set to hear the latest affidavits and closing arguments from both sides involved in the matter.

After that, the judge will call for a hearing to take place — likely in Edmonton.

The dispute dates back to 2001 when current chief Peter Bill first came to power.

The band’s appeals board continues to dispute the vote, saying objections to it still haven’t been dealt with.

Indian Affairs continues to monitor the matter, but still recognizes Bill as chief.
