Decision day for Churchill River MP

Monday, April 19, 2004 at 16:41

Churchill River MP Rick Laliberte is expected to announce his political intentions by 5:00 p.m. today.

At last word, Laliberte had yet to file nomination papers with the Liberals’ Churchill River Constituency Association, and today is the deadline.

Two candidates have already announced their intentions to run for the Liberal nomination in the riding — former Prince Albert Grand Council director Al Ducharme and long-time Metis Nation of Saskatchewan treasurer Allan Morin.

Laliberte has been non-committal about his political future, and might decide to quit politics altogether.

However, there is speculation Laliberte might choose to run in the anticipated federal election as an independent.

The Liberals will choose their candidate for Churchill River this Saturday through balloting at 4 polling stations across the North.

The NDP will go with Earl Cook, while the Conservatives have selected Jeremy Harrison.
