A First Nations columnist from Saskatchewan has won a prestigious award from a group based in the United States.

Doug Cuthand has received the award for best column from the Native American Journalists Association.

Cuthand won the award for a piece he did in the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix about what should be done with profits from First Nations casinos.

Cuthand believes NAJA liked that column because it has relevancy for Indigenous people living in the U.S., who are heavily involved in casino development.

This is the third time Cuthand has won this award.
