The sight of broken glass could soon be a rarity in Cumberland House.

The village council is attempting to pass a bottle ban in the community, similar to the ones passed in both Buffalo Narrows and La Ronge.

Cumberland House mayor Dale McAuley says the initiative is aimed at reducing the chance anyone could be seriously harmed by broken glass.

However he also feels the sight of busted glass lying on the ground sends a bad message.

He adds the village has written a letter to the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority about the issue.

A bylaw prohibiting glass bottles can be instituted once the village gets permission.
