The University of Saskatchewan’s College of Commerce is honouring a student from northern Saskatchewan today.

Monica Goulet of Cumberland House is the first-ever recipient of the Scotiabank Aboriginal Business Education Award.

The $10,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to an Aboriginal graduate student pursuing studies in the Master of Business Administration Program.

Spokesperson Leanne Bellegarde-Daniels says this is part of the college’s new MBA Bridging Program, which is designed to encourage the next generation of Aboriginal business leaders to further their education.

Among other things, she says the program helps Native MBA candidates with their entrance exams.

The program has received a 5-year, $250,000 funding commitment from Scotiaband.
