The team of civil servants that responded to the flooding disaster in Cumberland House last summer has been given an award.

They are among the 2006 recipients of the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Public Service.

The provincial government says the initiative in Cumberland House took “extraordinary dedication and management” to coordinate and to support local authorities, local volunteers and other agencies.

Over 1000 people were evacuated to Prince Albert for 20 days. Field staff were deployed to the evacuation site to protect the infrastructure and secure homes.

The award will be presented to recipients at a ceremony held in the fall.
