A former First Nations chief from western Saskatchewan could get as much as 14 years in jail for his part in a fraud scandal four years ago.
Charles Meechance pleaded guilty to trying to buy votes in the Red Pheasant First Nation band election in 2005.
A co-accused in the matter, Bert Benson, recently received a community sentence from the courts.
However, the Crown prosecutor says that’s because he agreed to a joint submission for Benson — something Miche Piche is not doing for the former chief.
Meechance will learn his fate on December 8th.
