The mayor of La Loche wants to clarify remarks she made the other day about her recently-announced run at federal politics.
Georgina Jolibois made it known this week that she is seeking the NDP nomination for the Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River riding in northern Saskatchewan.
Jolibois, who’s Dene, was criticized by Conservative MP Jeremy Harrison for highlighting her Aboriginal heritage in an interview with MBC.
Jolibois says those comments were not an attempt to play the “race card” — she’s just proud of her Dene ancestry.
Jolibois is also not happy with Harrison for hinting that he felt betrayed by her political intentions.
Jolibois says it was her call to make, and she was under no obligation to consult with Harrison first.
