A fire near the Little Red River reserve is now under control.

Fire crews are presently working to minimize the damage in surrounding areas.

Saskatchewan Environment spokesperson Jeanette Krayetski says the fire grew to about 115 hectares in size, but is now listed as under control.

Krayetski says there is a crew of 10 firefighters currently working to further control the blaze.

She says the fire was burning along the riverbank and was very aggressive because of yesterday’s high winds.

Krayetski notes there was one home in harm’s way yesterday, but crews from Saskatchewan Environment and the reserve protected the building from the flames.

An administrator on the reserve, Ray McKenzie, says they will try to figure out what caused the blaze today.

He adds the fire appears to have begun in one of the gravel pits Sunday night.
