The Globe and Mail is reporting that Cree Court judge Gerry Morin could wind up on the Supreme Court of Canada.
The report suggests that widespread support exists throughout Canada’s legal community to see a judge appointed who is either of First Nations, Metis or Inuit background.
Morin grew up in Cumberland House and currently works the Cree Court circuit in Prince Albert and the North.
Provincial court judge Mary-Ellen Turpel-Lafond of Saskatoon is another candidate for the post mentioned in the article.
Saskatoon lawyer Don Worme, who has respresented the mother of Neil Stonechild, is also considered a possibility.
