April 23rd is the next court date for a Meadow Lake provincial court judge facing assault and threat charges.

Judge Donald Bird is charged with two counts of common assault and two counts of uttering threats.

The charges were laid on January 20th, and stem from allegations dating back to last May.

This morning, his case was postponed to April 23rd to give the Crown and defence more time to prepare for it.

Bird did not appear in court.

The crown and defence agreed to proceed summarily.

The maximum punishment for cases that proceed that way is generally shorter than for those that proceed by inditement.
