Court Action Taken Over Buffalo Narrows Lots

A judge will issue a decision this month on an injunction application that could potentially stop the development of lots in Buffalo Narrows.

It’s expected the majority of the 65 lots slated for development will be snapped up by Albertans looking to capitalize on tourism opportunities that the anticipated road to Fort McMurray will generate.

Another 46 lots have already been sold to outside interests.

Local resident Philip Chartier is one of the people behind the court action.

Chartier says residents want more details about the financial arrangements surrounding this activity before the village council goes ahead with it, especially in light of recent tax hikes and service fee increases.

Mayor Bobby Woods told a newspaper in Meadow Lake earlier this month that, if sold, the lots would double Buffalo Narrows’ tax base.
