COs Hoping For Boost In Numbers

The union leader for Saskatchewan’s conservation officers is calling on the province to re-hire 18 members it terminated last year.

Steve Dobko says the decision to scale back the amount of officers working in the bush put huge workloads on remaining staff and forced many good officers to transfer to different departments.

Dobko isn’t sure what the future holds for his fellow officers, but says he will be watching closely when Finance Minister Harry Van Mulligen hands down his budget on February 23rd.

Dobko says the department has hired an independent consultant firm to examine the staffing levels of compliance officers.

He says will be curious to see what suggestions the consultants have to offer the provincial government.
