Concerns Raised Over Service Canada Phone Calls

An official with Service Canada confirms the department has been phoning residential school survivors to collect personal information.

Craig Henry says the reason for the phone calls was to clarify information that was collected at recent application sessions related to the Common Experience Payment.

Henry says officials, who are based in British Columbia, may contact survivors as much as twice before sending a confirmation letter in the mail.

Concerns had been raised by some elders in northern Saskatchewan that the phone calls could be a scam.

But Henry says that’s not the case.
