A Vancouver-based mining company has announced it is moving ahead with a plan to determine once and for all if a diamond mine will be established at the Fort a la Corne area east of Prince Albert.

Two companies are currently test drilling at the site, which is located just a few kilometres off the boundaries of the James Smith Cree Nation.

Kensington Resources President Robert McCallum says his company is tripling its investment into the research of the site this year alone.

He says this is key if they are to figure out the economic sustainability of a full-scale operation.

The site is home to some of the largest kimberlite deposits in the world.

McCallum says only some of these have been test drilled, which means they have to kick their research into high gear if they want to get a mine approved within the next three years.
