Community Steps Up To Help Family In Need

A fire has destroyed the home, but not the spirit, of an Aboriginal family in North Battleford.

Rosemarie Weenie, her husband Harvey and their grandchildren lost everything in a fire December 16th.

But the community stepped in to help, and Weenie is overwhelmed by their generosity.

The Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs gave the family $2,250.

They got donations from many individuals and groups — including the union at Maple Leaf Foods, where Weenie works.

Weenie says she always knew the Battlefords is a great place to live — but she says it’s more caring than she thought.

The family is currently living in a trailer.

They hope to eventually get a home on the Sweetgrass First Nation.
