Common Response Heard At Northern OT Meetings

The provincial government has announced the dates for more public consultation meetings on the controversial northern overtime exemption.

MLA Ron Harper has been commissioned to study the issue and report back to cabinet this fall.

He will be in Uranium City, Stony Rapids and Fond du Lac early next week, before stopping in La Ronge, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Meadow Lake and Prince Albert the following week.

Yesterday, Harper hosted meetings in Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows.

He says the response he got in those communities is the same he’s been getting everywhere else he’s visited — the participants don’t think it’s fair that employers can decline to pay overtime to most northerners.

Harper is scheduled to hold another public meeting on the overtime exemption this evening in Pinehouse.
