The Canadian Nuclear Safety commission is close to accepting a proposal by Cogema Resources to expand its McClean Lake mine.

The commission issued a news release yesterday saying it did not believe an open pit mine at the McClean Lake Sue E site would significantly affect the environment.

The commission said it expects any potential fallout from the mining expansion to come in the form of land disturbance, emissions to air or emissions to surface water.

It also accepted comments from the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce that the project will be good for northern citizens.
