Close Vote for MNS President

If the results from yesterday’s Metis Nation of Saskatchewan elections stand, it might be tough for the new MNS executive to stand united.

Robert Doucette has unofficially won the vote for president over bitter rival Dwayne Roth and fellow candidate Alex Maurice.

And while Doucette was able to finish 150 votes ahead of Roth, none of Doucette’s running mates were able to win their votes.

Roth running mate Ralph Kennedy defeated Doucette supporter May Henderson in the election for MNS provincial secretary.

Meantime, another Roth ally, Ray Laliberte, was able to defeat Doucette running mate Gabe Lafond in the election for provincial treasurer.

Guy Bouvier won the race for MNS vice president. Doucette supporter Bob McLeod finished well back.

George Smith is the new area director for Northern Region 3 after narrowly edging out Don Favel by 32 votes.

Leonard Montgrand won the area director’s seat in Northern Region 2 in another close vote. He defeated Philip Chartier by just 13 votes.
