Just like the national scene, the election voting in Churchill River is expected to be a tight battle.

Many are predicting a close 4-way race between incumbent MP Rick Laliberte and his 3 main challengers — the NDP’s Earl Cook, the Liberals’ Al Ducharme and the Conservatives’ Jeremy Harrison.

The northern Saskatchewan riding is getting a lot of outside attention, as observers are curious to see if northern voters decide to stick with Laliberte or go with someone new.

There are others who are also waiting to see if Harrison benefits from an anticipated vote split in the riding’s northern Aboriginal communities.

Just under 60 per cent of eligible voters took part in the last federal election in Churchill River, and most people are expecting an even greater turnout.
