SaskEnergy has begun clearing brush to make way for a new natural gas line to La Ronge.

The Crown utility is hoping to see natural gas in the northern community by next winter.

Spokesman Dave Burdeniuk says crews will be clearing over the next couple of weeks — and when that’s finished, the company should be ready to award a pipeline contract.

Burdeniuk says the crews are moving as quick as possible because of environmental considerations.

He says it’s important to get the work done before the end of March, before the sap in saplings starts flowing and before wildlife try to make the affected brush their home.

The pipeline will run from Montreal Lake to La Ronge.
