City Apartment Renovated For Off-Reserve Families

A newly-renovated apartment building in Saskatoon will soon take in First Nations families who move to the city from reserves.
The 12-unit rental housing project in the Avalon neighbourhood will start accepting low-income tenants on September 1st.
The $780,000 project is being provided by the provincial and federal governments. The City of Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Tribal Council are picking up the rest of the cost.
The province says the project will give these families with a culturally-appropriate environment in which to live.
NDP cabinet minister Judy Junor says her government is committed to addressing the affordable housing needs of off-reserve First Nations people.
Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison says it’s a “terrific opportunity” to help new residents adjust to life in Saskatoon.
